ArkenMap Privacy Policy

This policy describes how ArkenMap (“the App”) handles information when you use it. The App is designed to work primarily on your device.

Summary: ArkenMap does not send your imported maps (PDFs), your location, or your library index to servers we operate. Location is used on-device to show your position on maps you import. You can contact us via GitHub Issues for privacy questions.

1. Who we are

ArkenMap is published by the developer associated with this repository (github.com/Axlesholtz/arkenmap-support).

2. Information the App uses

Location (when you allow it). If you grant permission, the App uses the device location from Apple’s Core Location framework to plot your position on imported PDF maps. Location is used to update the on-screen indicator while you use the App.
Imported PDF maps. When you import a PDF, a copy is stored locally in the App’s sandbox (Application Support). This includes any georeferencing metadata embedded in the PDF (for example measure/GPTS data) that the App reads to align the map.
Library index. A small local index file may store metadata about imported maps (such as display names and file identifiers) on your device.

3. What we do not do (no backend we operate)

The App, as distributed from this project, does not upload your PDFs, your location history, or your library index to servers operated by the developer for App functionality. There is no account system in the App tied to this privacy policy.

Third parties: Apple provides the operating system and may process data according to Apple’s policies (for example device location services). The App does not integrate third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the current open-source codebase. If a future release changes this, we will update this policy before collecting new categories of data.

4. Data retention and deletion

Imported maps and the local library index remain on your device until you delete them in the App or remove the App. Uninstalling the App typically removes sandboxed data; refer to Apple’s documentation for your iOS version.

5. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. International users

Because data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers for core features, there is no intentional cross-border transfer of your map or location data by us.

7. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after updates means you accept the revised policy.
